Whats your Fav Monopoly Peice?

Well I have had a long day today! Been in my old college because they asked me to present my work to some of the students and talk about Salford University, the accommodation, the briefs, what i learned ect...

and I have to say talking to the students made me realise something..I really have become a better person and improved! Seeing those students and hearing the questions they asked were fantastic! I remember when i was the lost little student sitting on those seats asking those questions wishing I was the bigger student presenting..and then well I am now! and its fantastic.

The presentation went extremely well, there was situations where nobody asked questions and I had a bit of time left but only around 3 minutes. However I saw smile on peoples faces, they weren't bored, I had people come over to me saying i was a lot of help! Presenting my work to the students made me feel a lot better about myself and It was so worth it.

Finished Framed and Expressed

Finished my collage! Actually completed it 15 days ago but never got round to blogging about it! :) Well here it is..the collage which i slaved over, got my hair stuck to, and made a mess over..

I am actually really happy with the final result, I mean I didn't even think I would finish it!! Will have to express myself a lot more often because it felt good when it was done!

Well I still have tonnes of election posters left SO ..yeah..auction them off? or give them to some needy birds..
Either way ill keep them for now and see what i can do with them.

I actually had some offers to put it in the SU building
[Which is ironic when the SU is the ones who were to blame for all the election posters!]
Maybe they don't understand the message? :P

You know Uni is nearing when you get a summer project!

Well finally received my summer project! half way through summer haha!

For this summer I have to design some graphic fonts and experiment on different materials to create my designs. This project is due for the 23rd of September and I think that's plenty of time for me.

This project will be very useful for me due to the fact I am pretty terrible on font design and typography so need to experiment more into it. Now the brief was very short and simple and they did mention this

Choose a theme and maybe a font to base it on. You could pick from the following themes;

Industrial/Urban

Organic/Natural

Recycled/Found

Now i don't what they entirely mean when they say about the themes because I have ideas for all the themes and tempted to experiment with them all then choose a final theme afterwards. Since the project is just an experimental summer project I have decided that im going to do design ideas and samples in many themes then create the final font with one of the themes :)

So far in my sketch book i have mind mapped from each of the themes and drawn a few developmental designs. You will be able to see some images up here another time.

Summer Holidays and Outside Projects

As you see I haven't posted in a while but that's because it's the summer holidays!! So far I have chilled at home, went back to work as a houskeeper and celebrated my 20th birthday which was on the 15th of July.

Of course I can't really put my artwork on hold till i return to university because that would be boring!! So I have been working on some stuff [mainly band photography]. However I have also been working on something big and expressive which is just an inside project of my own.

The elections have now passed and the drama of voting have gone to a hold now..but the annoying thing was when the university elections were on. I wasn't that fussed about the whole voting but it was more of the waste of paper on the posters they created.

Of course since i'm a designer myself and will tend to waste paper now and then but with what the canidates of the elections did was awfull! They wallpapered the university with election posters..they werent variously scattered but just the same posters aligned on the same wall [like we can't read the first time!].

Anyways after the elections me and a few friends decided to take them down so I could create an artistic piece with them and express how i felt about the whole repetition and brainwashing the elections can be.

I ended with roughly 160 election posters and I didn't even manage to collect all of them!!

I wanted the artwork to be BIG not something small so I decided to work in A1

This piece is kind of an introduction to my artist name L-saurus which is something I wanted for a while, I know artist names can sometimes be silly however Laura Smith is a far too popular name so i decided to create something unique and with my initals :) so since my love of dinosaurs is a very popular icon to me I decided to stick to that.

It took me a while to think of what to do with the piece(Month after elections) however i finally sketched an outline and was happy with it.The dinosaur is suppose to me the inner me and on the image you see the dinosaur showing its aggression by crumpling up vote cards with its hands. The quote is from a clip i saw in the movie "Network" which is a live network of a guy talking about how things are collapsing and were just sitting around scared watching the tv and not expressing how mad we are and how our life has value. This is a great way to express on how i feel about the elections and the publicity of it all!


Since my favorite art medium is collage I decided to coat the image with the election posters to sort of show what I mean however all the words will be jumbled up and you only see cuttings of it just to show that its still election posters but since the words are all cut out it makes it look better.

All i need to do is the background! Which i will upload as soon as i finish it :)

VIDEO COMPLETED

I finally manage to finish the video! It took me around 3 days and the final creation has made me so happy :) It's not what I expected but I was amazed with the final results! One of my best stop motion videos makes me want to carry on video.

Final Video Idea

Out of all my 20 ideas I have decided to use idea number.. 18

Paper Liverbird
The Liverbird is liverpools own bird and you can see statues of them everywhere in liverpool there is even one on the gates of the Bluecoat . I thought of an idea where it starts with a bluecoat leaflet and suddenly shapes cut out and form together creating a paper liverbird! Then the liverbird flys away and flys over the bluecoat.
